Laura Anderson, best known from Season 4 of Love Island, has opened up about her breakup with former Hollyoaks star Gary Lucy—a split that took place while she was expecting their child.
The pair went public with their pregnancy news in February 2023, but at that point, their relationship had already ended. Gary confirmed the separation around the time they were both appearing on Celebs Go Dating in late 2022.
In September of that year, Laura gave birth to their daughter, Bonnie, with Gary present at the birth. Despite hopes of reconciliation, the two did not reunite. Now, speaking candidly on the Made by Mammas podcast, Laura has shared her side of what she describes as one of the most emotionally difficult chapters of her life.
“Becoming a mum was something I was so excited about, but it was also one of the hardest periods I’ve gone through,” she shared. “At the time I announced the pregnancy, we weren’t officially together, but I still held onto the hope that we could make it work.”
However, that hope quickly dissolved. Laura recalled how, on the same day she was preparing to go public with her pregnancy news, Gary released a statement confirming their breakup. “It felt like a blow,” she said. “That moment made it clear—we weren’t going to fix things.”
Laura also addressed the harsh criticism she faced online during that time. Trolls resurfaced her previous relationship with Dane Bowers and their IVF journey, using it to form damaging narratives about her.
“People were calling me desperate for wanting a child,” she said. “Then when I got pregnant quickly after meeting Gary, they twisted the story. It made me feel like I’d already failed before I even began.”
She went on to say that the guilt was overwhelming, even before her daughter was born. “I felt like I hadn’t given her what she deserved—a solid family structure. But I also know it’s not solely my responsibility that things didn’t work out between us.”
Through it all, Laura has remained focused on motherhood, determined to raise her daughter in a loving and healthy environment—regardless of the circumstances surrounding her relationship.
